Getting off my lazy butt and doing something…

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

Err, yeah. I remember, once upon a time, I used to have time to blog. That was before we built this:
New House

Oh, and before he was born:

Warren and Liam

So despite the fact that I’m lying on the couch there, I’ve been far from idle.

My yard still looks like this:

New House - yard

so it’s not as though i don’t have enough to do! However, I *am* committing to finishing up, in the very near future, the Ruby Web Spider I began to write about some 5-6 months ago.

Consider this, a dusting off of the cobwebs kinda post…

And now for something completely different…

Usually I use this blog to talk about web related stuff, but sometimes you get a project so all-consuming it intrudes into all areas of your life.

Over the last 6 weeks, that project has been our new house. Whilst we have an absolutely top notch builder doing the development, a lot of my spare time has been eaten up running between our mortgage broker, solicitors and the builder to get everything lined up for the refinance of our land loan, and the building approval.

The site

Finally (barring some last minute paperwork), things got underway last week. Within 12 hours of signing the contract, the builders were on-site, pegging out things and preparing to get started. We already have the beginnings of a retaining wall and fingers crossed, building approval from the city council will be forthcoming in a few days, at which point the post footings will be dug and the floor “system” is due to arrive.

I don’t want this to overtake my main blog as this will be a short term project, but for now I’ve put up some pictures and rough notes of progress in the last two weeks here.

Exciting times!
